One disagreement means we're over

So here’s the thing I’ve noticed in my life: all it takes is one tiny disagreement with someone, and poof—friendship gone. Years ago, I snapped at a friend. Not my finest moment. She dropped me faster than a bad diaper. I apologized, thinking we’d be fine. Were we fine? Of course not. Why would life be that simple?
Fast-forward seventeen years—yes, seventeen. I reach out on Facebook with a nice grown-up apology. She responds, says everything’s cool. We even have a phone call. And I’m thinking, “Hey, look at us! Two adults putting the past behind us. Maybe we’ll even talk once in a blue moon.”
Then I start texting her. And every message… disappears into some mysterious void. Like I’m texting someone who’s not only dead, but haunting their own phone.
After a while, I figured I should probably stop sending messages to the Great Beyond. So I backed off. And honestly? After a 17-year grudge that lasted longer than the friendship itself… I finally ran out of ‘I don’t care’ juice. The tank is dry. Bone-dry.
But hey—at least it makes for a good story.
