.25 cents worth of argument

I was sitting at Bubba’s 33 when I overheard a couple get into a small, yet intense argument over the tip. They had just finished one small pepperoni pizza, one Coke, and a cup of water. Their bill came to $15.24.
While the wife got up to go to the restroom, the husband handed the server a $20 bill and said, “Keep the change.”
When the wife returned, ready to leave, she asked, “Did you already tip the server?”
“Yeah,” he replied. Then, without missing a beat, he asked her, “Do you have a quarter?”
She looked confused. “Why?”
He went on to explain, getting slightly impatient, “The bill was $15.24. I want to give him an even $5 tip, not $4.76.”
The wife blinked. “But… you already gave him $20.”
“Yes,” he said, “but I want it to be an even $5.”
She shook her head. “I still don’t get why you need a quarter. I mean, .24 cents isn’t a big deal.”
He walked off to find the server, seemingly proud of himself. When he returned, the discussion continued as they left the restaurant, still debating the merits of a perfectly even tip.
